Newcastle United need to add to their depth in this summer transfer window. There are a number of areas on the pitch where they do not have enough quality or quantity.
Right-back might be the perfect example of this. On his day, Tino Livramento is a very good Premier League-level player and an England international.
That being said, he is dealing with an injury at the moment, which he suffered away at the World Cup. That has left the Magpies paper-thin when it comes to their right-back options. 19-year-old Leo Shahar cannot be relied upon as the cover option for the entire season, if you take Livramento’s fitness record into consideration.
So, it would not be a bad idea for Newcastle United to sign another right-back. And interestingly, it looks like they might not be a million miles away from doing that.
Reports in Bosnia & Herzegovina suggest that the situation is already advanced and the move could be completed in the near future.
Bosnian right-back agrees to join Newcastle United
According to SportSport, Amar Dedic has already agreed to a Newcastle United move. Negotiations are ongoing with Benfica regarding the transfer fee.
Benfica are asking for €33 million for the transfer of the 23-year-old defender. On the other hand, Newcastle United are not willing to pay more than €30 million.
However, it is expected that the transfer will be realised very soon. There will be no problem in the agreement, because Benfica are ready to part ways with the Bosnian international.
So, all things considered, it looks like this is a transfer that is expected to go through. Negotiations between the two clubs could still take a bit of time though.
Matthias Jaissle has worked with Amar Dedic at two clubs
One factor that is impossible to ignore is the fact that he has already played a decent bit of football under Matthias Jaissle. And not at one but two clubs as well.
The two have worked together at both FC Liefering and RB Salzburg in the past. So, Jaissle will know exactly what to expect from Dedic and clearly rated him highly in the past.
If Newcastle United do end up signing Dedic, it would be a sign that they are ready to back Jaissle with the players that he wants, which can only be viewed as a positive.
Of course, nothing is over the line yet. So, all we can do is wait and watch for the time being. But considering the confidence of the Bosnian media, do not be surprised if it does end up happening soon.
