It is pretty clear that Newcastle United need to make some quality additions in the remaining few weeks of the summer transfer window. The Magpies have lost key players like Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. They have looked nowhere near convincing in pre-season that they can cope without them.
Their latest defeat came at the hands of fellow Premier League side Everton. The 3-1 loss has left the fans worried going into the new campaign.
We are less than two weeks away from the start of the Premier League season. So far, it feels like the Newcastle United management have left a lot of work still to be done when it comes to strengthening the squad.
There are holes in a number of positions across the pitch. But fortunately, it looks like Newcastle United are now closing in on another signing.
Fabrizio Romano confirms next Newcastle United signing close
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are closing in on the Amar Dedic deal. The personal terms have been agreed with the 23-year-old fullback.
Dedic wants the Newcastle United move and agreement at the final stages with Benfica for a final fee of over €30 million package.
If or when the move does end up getting agreed, it would be Newcastle United’s sixth signing of the summer. The others are Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaouen and Lukas Hornicek.
Out of these players, Dedic is the one with the most experience under his belt. He has played for teams like Benfica, Marseille, RB Salzburg and more at club level. Internationally, he has 31 caps to his name for Bosnia & Herzegovina at 23 years of age.
So, this is a genuine talent that Newcastle United look to be closing in on. And very interestingly, he has a long history with new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
The history between Jaissle and Dedic
Dedic has worked with Jaissle at two of his previous clubs. He played a total 52 games under the manager across FC Liefering and RB Salzburg, scoring a combined 4 goals and providing 6 assists.
This is a very positive sign if you are a Newcastle United fan. It goes to show that the club are willing to back Jaissle in the transfer market and sign players he is already familiar with.
So, it is likely that this is a signing that has been pushed for the manager himself. And if things go according to expectations, that wish is set to be granted.
