Newcastle United make offer to €120 million-rated midfielder

There is not a ton of positivity around Newcastle United at the moment. After a few years of consistent success, the 25/26 season was a difficult one for them as they finished 12th in the Premier League.

Ideally, this summer would have been one to strengthen the squad. On the contrary, it looks like the entire core of the side has been erased within the space of a few months.

On the pitch, they have lost arguably their three very best players. Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona. Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham Hotspur. And club captain Bruno Guimaraes was the latest to leave, joining Premier League champions.

There have been changes in the dugout as well. Long-time manager Eddie Howe had looked set to stay as he started pre-season but ended up leaving in the middle of it, somewhat out of the blue. He has been replaced by the highly-rated but inexperienced, Matthias Jaissle.

So, instantly, this summer has become one to rebuild the squad. Strengthening it might not be possible after what has been lost. But, it does look like Newcastle United do have genuine interest in an elite midfield talent.

Newcastle United make offer to German international

According to Sebastien Vidal, Newcastle United are showing concrete interest in Felix Nmecha. They have already made an offer to the player.

Borussia Dortmund, however, intends to discuss only around €120 million, an amount that cools the Magpies’ enthusiasm. For his part, the German international still needs to be convinced by Newcastle United’s project, particularly due to the absence of European competition.

Of course, Nmecha’s name has done the rounds of the Newcastle United rumour mill for quite some time now. So, there is definitely some level of interest there.

At the same time, if you ask me, it is hard to imagine that Newcastle United would be willing to make an offer in the region of €120 million to sign Nmecha, or any other player this summer.

Newcastle more likely to make veteran signing in midfield

If you look at the recent rumours, it looks like Newcastle United have set their sights on veteran players in their attempts to rebuild their midfield department following the exits of Tonali and Guimaraes.

A move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had looked to be on the cards. But yesterday, news broke that he had turned down the chance to join Newcastle United.

There have also been links with Joao Palhinha. He is currently on the books at Bayern Munich but has not been able to establish himself there. So, a move could be on the cards.

More recently, there have been some rumours linking the Magpies with Juventus and Dutch international midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as well.
