Newcastle United have already lost far too many important players in this summer transfer window. Bruno Guimaraes is now an Arsenal player after a long-drawn transfer saga. Sandro Tonali joined their North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. And Anthony Gordon left the Premier League to join FC Barcelona.
For a team that finished 12th in the Premier League last season, losing even one important player would have to be considered a problem. Newcastle United have lost arguably their three best players already.
The last thing they need is for Lewis Hall’s name to be added to that list. Yet, rumours regarding a potential move to Manchester United refuse to go away.
For a little while, it had looked like Newcastle United had put their foot down and the door to a move was closed. But it looks like the situation is not as final has it had seemed.
Worrying update on Lewis Hall
According to The Sun, Hall still wants to join Manchester United despite Newcastle’s resistance to parting ways. Well-placed sources say that the Magpies have taken measures to dampen talk of the left-back joining Man Utd amid their plans to keep him.
But Hall’s wish to leave Newcastle has not changed despite the departure of Eddie Howe. The English international still wants to move to Man Utd.
This is certainly not a positive situation if you are Newcastle United. You always want players who are keen to stay. But when it comes to Hall, if the reports are accurate, then it feels like he already has a foot out of the exit door.
Newcastle United simply cannot afford to lose a talent like Hall at this point in time though. If they are looking to build the roster around youngsters, the left-back should be one of the faces of the new team.
Newcastle United need to put their foot down
Hall is still 21 years of age, a full England international and has the potential to be the best left-back in the Premier League for the next decade to come.
That is not a player that you let go in his early 20s. Not even him a magnificent transfer offer comes in from a club like Manchester United.
Also, it needs to be taken into account that Newcastle United do not need the money at this point in time. They have already brought in close to £250 million from the departures of Guimaraes, Tonali and Gordon.
The only situation in which they should even consider the idea of Hall leaving is if he tries to push it through. One would hope that it won’t come to that.
