Newcastle United agree €30 million deal to make next signing

Newcastle United have made four signings so far this summer. Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have been brought in. All of them are highly-rated talents, but even the oldest of them is 20 years of age.

Naturally, the club’s fans have demanded for more experience and proven quality to be brought in, especially after the departures of key players like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Nick Pope could soon leave as well.

Fortunately, it looks like Newcastle United are set to meet the fans’ demands with their next signing. But at the same time, they would be bringing in someone capable of contributing for the next decade.

Newcastle United reported agree deal to sign 24-year-old player

According to a report from Diario do Minho, Lukas Hornicek is expected to sign for Newcastle United. The club are preparing to pay the €30 million demanded by Sporting Braga.

Diario do Minho had also reported that Newcastle United had triggered the goalkeeper’s release clause, information not yet officially confirmed by the club.

But the Portuguese outlet also understands that the transfer is stalled by details and because SC Braga are unwilling to negotiate below Hornicek’s release clause.

So, by the looks of it, Hornicek is set to be Newcastle United’s fifth signing of the summer. This is a move that they needed to make, if Pope does indeed end up leaving in this window.

Newcastle need another goalkeeper

Pope has done a very good job for Newcastle United so far. But he is 34 years of age and has only a year left on his contract. So, it might be the right time to part ways.

Newcastle United had several other goalkeepers on their radar this summer as well. James Trafford was believed to be the top target. But he is set to join Leeds United.

There had been reports about the Magpies holding talks to sign Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion as well. But he is going to be joining Coventry City, where he spent the previous season on loan and won the Championship.

As for Newcastle United, it looks like they have settled on Hornicek as their next number one. If reports coming out of Portugal are accurate, expect him to be announced as the club’s next signing soon.
