‘Here we go’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle United have agreed €25m signing

Newcastle United have certainly done a good job of working in silence. It did not take them long to get a deal over the line for Bazoumana Toure earlier in the summer. And now, it looks like they have come to terms over the signing of a midfielder as well.

Of course, Newcastle United’s midfield needed strengthening. Sandro Tonali has already left in order to join Tottenham Hotspur in a £100 million deal.

On top of that, there are question marks over the future of Bruno Guimaraes as well. The Brazilian midfielder is said to be growing frustrated as he has witnessed some of his best teammates leave around him. And Arsenal are thought to be keen on signing him.

On the other hand, Newcastle United have made a signing of their own. I had reported it late last night, and it has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano earlier this morning.

Newcastle United agree deal to sign midfielder

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have verbally agreed a deal to sign Sean Steur for a fee over €25 million. Here we go. The midfielder will join the Magpies from Ajax.

The agreement was done overnight and the club are planning a medical next. The deal breaks down into a €24m fixed fee plus €3m add-ons.

Of course, Steur is not a household name and most fans would not have heard of him before this. But he is a talent for sure, having already played 25 senior games for Ajax at 18 years of age.

What kind of a player is Sean Steur?

In last night’s report, I had already taken a deep dive into his numbers. And they suggested that he is pretty good in two aspects of the game.

Steur is very good when it comes to his passing, which is what you expect from someone coming through at Ajax. But he is also excellent for his age, when it comes to winning his duels.

So, the Magpies might be getting someone with the potential to develop into a complete midfielder. Now, it remains to be seen whether they can provide him with that platform or not.

There is always going to be a certain level of risk involved when it comes to signing youngsters. You can never predict how their development will go.

That is especially true in the Premier League, where the stakes are so high. It is impossible to keep giving youngsters chances if they do not start delivering early.
