Things seem to be heating up at St James’ Park when it comes to this summer transfer window. A move for Bazoumana Toure is on the verge of completion. He has already been spotted at Newcastle United’s stadium. And it looks like the Magpies are working on a second signing as well.
Obviously, the eyes of the football world are currently on the World Cup. The same is the case for Newcastle United as well. It appears they have picked out one of the standout performers of the tournament.

Newcastle United set to put in official bid for midfielder
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are preparing to make an official bid for SC Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi, which is set to be sent soon.
Initial contacts have been made over recent days and a proposal to SC Freiburg will follow. The midfielder has been an absolute standout at the ongoing World Cup.
Manzambi has scored three goals and provided two assists at the ongoing World Cup for Switzerland. Even more impressive is the fact that he has done so from just two starts.
So, it is easy to see why the Magpies might be interested in signing Manzambi this summer. Of course, could their plans be derailed once again, as was the case with Victor Munoz not too long ago.
Why has the Manzambi news come out now?
When it comes to transfer news, most of what comes out in the media is because those involved in the dealings, on both sides of it, want it to. So, why is the Manzambi story out now?
When it came to the Toure deal, the Magpies worked in silence. There were whispers about interest and soon enough, news broke that a deal had been agreed with Hoffenheim.
So, has the Manzambi news broken because it is close? Or has it come out so that the situation is in the open and other clubs know that they need to be fast if they want to make a move for Manzambi? Or am I just reading too much into it?
Whatever may be the case, one thing is very clear, Manzambi would be an excellent signing for the Magpies. Whether it would work out or not is a different matter altogether.
The Swiss midfielder has the talent Newcastle United should be willing to take a risk on. At the end of the day, that is all you can do when signing youngsters.
