Newcastle United will host Manchester City on Boxing Day as part of a demanding 2026/27 Premier League fixture list that also gives Eddie Howe’s side an opening-weekend home game against Liverpool.
The club confirmed the schedule after the Premier League release, with Liverpool due at St James’ Park on Sunday, 23 August at 4.30pm BST. That immediately places Newcastle in a headline slot before a first away league trip to Tottenham Hotspur six days later.
The biggest supporter date comes in December, when Sunderland visit St James’ Park on Saturday, 5 December for the first Tyne-Wear derby of the league campaign. Newcastle then move into a festive run that includes Manchester City at home on Boxing Day and Nottingham Forest at home on Wednesday, 30 December, according to Newcastle United’s fixture announcement.
Howe faces a loaded winter stretch
That run gives Howe an awkward balance to strike. The derby brings its own emotion, but the City match arrives in the part of the calendar where squad depth and recovery time usually decide whether good form survives into January.
Newcastle’s new year begins at Chelsea on Saturday, 2 January before a trip to Manchester United four days later. Arsenal away follows on Saturday, 23 January, making the winter block the section that could shape their European ambitions.
The reverse derby at Sunderland is scheduled for Saturday, 1 May, before Newcastle finish away to Hull City on Sunday, 30 May.
