- Newcastle United want Victor Munoz
- Spaniard seen as Anthony Gordon’s replacement
- Fabrizio Romano confirms official offer for Osasuna attacker
Anthony Gordon’s departure has left a huge hole in the Newcastle United squad, but the Magpies have taken a major step towards addressing the issue.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an official offer has been made to sign Victor Munoz, who is part of the Spain squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Munoz has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent weeks, with Real Madrid retaining a buyback option when they sold him to the La Liga side last summer.
And now, it appears as if the wheels are in motion to bring the talented Spaniard to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United make first bid for Victor Munoz
After Gordon’s move to Barcelona, a handful of attackers have been linked with a move to Tyneside.
Newcastle United were locked in talks for Zadok Yohanna, but the Nigerian attacker opted to move to Brighton instead amid interest from a bunch of clubs across the continent.
And now, the Magpies have quickly shifted focus to Munoz, who is currently with the Spain camp preparing for the World Cup.
Romano says the 22-year-old is Newcastle United’s ‘top target’ and an official offer has already been sent to Osasuna.
Discussions are underway among all parties involved, and the expectation is that the situation will be resolved quickly to avoid spilling into the World Cup.
Spain’s first game in the competition is on the 15th of June, so the Magpies will look to thrash out terms by then to complete their second signing of the summer after Ewen Jaouen.
Victor Munoz medical in USA
While this isn’t from Romano, reports from Spain suggest a deal is more advanced.
El Chiringuito claim a deal has been agreed between Newcastle United and Osasuna for Munoz, with the player expected to undergo his medical in the United States of America.
The Spanish radio station have made a bunch of notorious claims over the years, so we have to take their information with a pinch of salt.
However, it could well turn out to be true. As we mentioned earlier, all parties involved will want a swift resolution, so this could develop quickly in the coming hours.
Nunoz the perfect fit for Newcastle United
Munoz will not start for Spain at the World Cup, but his explosive running and ability to take on defenders make him the perfect super-sub for Luis de la Fuente.
Last season, he featured 36 times for Osasuna across all competitions and notched up nine goal contributions. While those numbers don’t really set the world alight, his skillset is perfect for Eddie Howe’s system.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
| La Liga | 34 (31) | 6 | 2 | 2,668 |
| Other Competitions | 2 | 1 | 0 | — |
| Total (All Comps) | 36 | 7 | 2 | 2,668 |
Munoz has a release clause of around €40m, which is likely the price the Magpies will have to pay to secure his signature.
And finally, he is capable of playing multiple attacking positions, making him a like-for-like replacement for Gordon. Munoz predominantly featured as a left-winger, though, so if he’s signed, expect him to slot straight into the starting XI.
