- Newcastle United confirm Sandro Tonali price tag
- Manchester United want to sign Italian midfielder
- Tonali also previously wanted by Arsenal
Once again, speculation surrounding Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle United future is dominating the back pages.
According to The Telegraph, the Magpies will demand a fee of £100m to part with the Italian international this summer.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Tonali, who was also linked with a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window.
Eddie Howe will not want to lose another one of his key players after selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
And the Magpies’ price tag for Tonali should come as a clear hands-off warning to his potential suitors.
Newcastle United slap £100m price tag on Sandro Tonali
Earlier this summer, we relayed news from the Italian media on Read Newcastle that the Magpies want £100m for Tonali.
And now, Luke Edwards has doubled down on those claims, confirming that the Italian international will indeed cost an outrageous sum if he were to leave this summer.
Newcastle have no intention of selling the Italian this summer, but the report also states that his departure hasn’t been completely ruled out at this stage.
There have also been suggestions that Tonali could be offered a leadership role at Newcastle, which could make him remain at the club.
However, a handful of giants across European football are interested in him. In fact, Tonali’s agent offered him to Arsenal in the January transfer window, so it goes without saying that the Italian and his entourage have discussed a move.
Magpies should act definitively
Last summer, Newcastle left it too late with Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool late in the summer transfer window.
Sure, they managed to get themselves a Premier League record fee for their troubles. But the fact of the matter is that they didn’t have time to sign replacements as they scrambled to snap up Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
Earlier in the summer, the Magpies wanted to sign Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, among others. But it looked like Isak would stay, so they passed on both players.
Similarly, with Tonali, Newcastle can’t afford to leave it too late. They can’t lose a player of his quality, but if he agitates for a move, they are better off offloading him soon, which would allow them enough time to draft in a replacement.
The best solution, obviously, is to sit down with Tonali and his representatives and convince them to stay for another season at least.
It’s impossible to predict what the future holds, but we surely haven’t heard the last of the Tonali transfer saga, that’s for sure. Here’s to hoping it isn’t a drawn-out one like the one involving Isak and Liverpool last summer.
