- Newcastle United ‘in talks’ with AS Moncao midfielder
- Magpies can finally sign James Trafford
- Bid submitted for Anthony Gordon replacement
Newcastle United have just one more Premier League match left this season before all attention can be turned to the big summer rebuild.
There’s just an outside chance of European qualification riding on the visit to Fulham on Sunday, but the power is in the hands of rivals after a dismal run of form late on this season.
Once the 2025/26 campaign draws to a close, the Magpies can pour energy into the summer transfer window. Here’s how Newcastle United could line up next season, if current rumours come true.

Goalkeeper – James Trafford
Defenders – Julian Ryerson, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall
Eddie Howe has never truly looked convinced by his options between the sticks this season. Aaron Ramsdale feels sure to return to Southampton after his loan deal, instead of the club activating a £20 million buy option.
Nick Pope continues to prove his abilities as a shot-stopper but is too error-prone to be regarded as a surefire number one. Leeds United have been linked and his sale could open the door for James Trafford to finally become a Newcastle United player, after the club missed out last season.
The centre-back position remains a priority area for recruitment with Fabian Schar set to leave at the expiry of his contract. Malick Thiaw is one of the first names on the teamsheet and any newcomer will face some task ousting the reliable Sven Botman in the early weeks of the campaign.
Tino Livramento has no shortage of suitors with The Sun carrying fresh reports of Arsenal interest this week. Borussia Dortmund man Julian Ryerson has been linked with a move to St James’ Park and SportWitness backs that up today, although the Magpies face competition from Manchester United.
Newcastle United hold ‘initial talks’ with AS Monaco
Midfielders – Lamine Camara, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton
Wingers – William Gomes, Harvey Barnes
Striker – William Osula
If Sandro Tonali’s agent gets his way, the feeling is that the former AC Milan man will leave Newcastle United this summer. The midfielder’s exit appears less concrete than that of Anthony Gordon but, with the club needing to sell-to-buy, it’s certainly a realistic possibility.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that ‘initial talks’ have been held over a move for AS Monaco man Lamine Camara. Lewis Miley will fancy his chance of a starting berth but will need to see off his injury niggles.
Should Gordon head to Bayern Munich of FC Barcelona, Newcastle look poised to swoop for £70 million Porto man William Gomes. The Magpies are already said to have bid on the wide man.
With Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and William Osula all on the books, spending even more money on a striker would feel unwise – unless one of the trio was to leave. In an unpredictable turn of events, Osula’s recent form may suggest he has the credentials to continue to lead the line.
