It’s been a tough season for everyone associated with Newcastle United as they prepare for their final home game of the campaign against West Ham.

In an exclusive interview with Read Tottenham via freebets.com, the home of the best betting sites, Sebastian Bassong has previewed the game at St James’ Park later today.

Eddie Howe’s side will try to give their home fans something to cheer about after a tough recent spell has seen them drop to 13th in the Premier League table.

However, Bassong feels the Hammers won’t be pushovers as they continue to remain locked in a relegation battle with Tottenham.

Bassong says Jarrod Bowen will be the danger man

After four successive Premier League defeats, the Magpies got back on track over the last two weeks with a win against Brighton and a draw against Nottingham Forest.

West Ham, on the other hand, are 18th, two points below 17th-placed Tottenham. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side desperately need a win to put the pressure on Spurs heading into the final match day of the season.

And Bassong, who played for the club during the 2008-09 campaign before moving to Tottenham, expects a good contest later today at St James’ Park.

He singled out Jarrod Bowen as West Ham’s danger man, adding that their last-minute disallowed goal against Arsenal will add to the fire in their belly to get a positive result.

“West Ham will give everything this weekend to secure a positive result,” said the Cameroonian exclusively to Read Newcastle.

“But knowing they really need a win, they are going to have to look to take any opportunity they can.

“After feeling aggrieved after the VAR decision, they may have extra fire, but Newcastle want to end the season well, and it’s their last home game, so to end with a win is very important.

“But West Ham will need the points more and will need [Jarrod] Bowen especially to be on form, if they are going to get a result, but I think Newcastle will have enough.”

Bassong’s comments suggest that he is putting Newcastle as slight favourites, although West Ham will have a greater desire to get the points due to their relegation struggles.

Newcastle need to turn up at home

Howe is set to remain at Newcastle next season after holding crunch talks with the owners and the hierarchy this season.

However, the atmosphere at St James’ Park has gone a bit flat, particularly due to their underwhelming run in 2026.

Newcastle have won just nine of their 17 Premier League games at St James’ Park. They need to make their home ground a fortress once again and a win today will at least give them something to cheer about.

Additionally, they still have a chance to finish above bitter rivals Sunderland in the Premier League table and could do well with all three points today.
