- Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope linked with exit
- Leeds United looking to strengthen
- Magpies could sanction £10m sale
Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope is subject to Premier League interest this summer, with Leeds United reportedly eyeing a move.
Pope has seen his minutes shared with loanee Aaron Ramsdale this season. The 34-year-old has struggled to nail down a consistent starting spot, with a number of inconsistent performances.
The goalkeeper position is set to be a key area for improvement this summer. The likes of James Trafford and Robin Risser have been linked with big-money moves to Tyneside.
Newcastle United could sanction Nick Pope sale
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is said to be looking to bring in a new number one. The German is reportedly happy to let Lucas Perri leave after a season of struggle, which has seen him lose his starting place.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow is Leeds’ current first choice between the sticks but could see his position come under threat this summer.
Nick Pope would bring valuable Premier League experience to Leeds, and that is thought to be one of the main factors behind their interest in the England international.
Despite Newcastle’s search for a new goalkeeper, they may not be keen on losing Pope. A departure for the 34-year-old, alongside the expiry of Aaron Ramsdale’s loan, would likely leave Newcastle needing to sign two goalkeepers.
That could become a problem given the scale of the rebuild expected this summer transfer window.
Leeds United eye £10 million Magpies man
Newcastle paid £15m for Nick Pope from Burnley in the 2022/23 season. Since then, he has spent four seasons on Tyneside and has been a reliable servant for the club.
However, this season has seen a noticeable dip in form, which has contributed to the club’s decision to consider a new first-choice goalkeeper.
Reports from SportsBoom suggest Leeds could be willing to pay up to £10m for Pope. This would allow Newcastle to recoup two-thirds of their initial fee, which, for a 34-year-old whose performances are beginning to cost points, may represent a sensible decision.
In other news, Newcastle United and Arsenal told £52m price tag for ‘on fire’ Sandro Tonali alternative.
