Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi ‘bromance’ blooms at Newcastle United bar in New York

Newcastle United superfan Sam Fender stopped off at the home of the New York’s supporters club while in the United States, and met up with famous pal Lewis Capaldi.

The North Shields singer is known for his outspoken love for the Magpies, playing iconic shows at St James’ Park, as well as celebrating with fans on the day of the takeover before rocking up to a BBC Breakfast interview in a Newcastle tracksuit.

Fender has been travelling the United States in recent weeks and began the month in Los Angeles, before flying to the East Coast to spend some time in New York. The 31-year-old is known to be good friends with Capaldi, and the two met up while abroad.

In a clip shared on social media, Fender and Capaldi could be seen dancing in the pub. The ‘People Watching’ singer also found an image of himself giving that famous BBC interview and posed for the photo.

Fender wrote: “Took Lewis to New York’s famous Newcastle bar to guarantee more people recognised me.”

Fans were delighted with the club. One wrote: “I would watch the hell out of this sitcom, lol.”

Others jokingly asked if they could join and another called it ‘the bromance and collab we are all waiting on’. Another added: “We made the right people famous.”

The Toon Army New York group shared an image of fans with Fender on Instagram. The caption read: “Just a casual Easter Sunday at @peterdillons36. Nothing to see here 👀.

“Big thanks to @sam_fender and @lewiscapaldi (not pictured) for stopping in and serving up some drinks and vibes with the lovely staff at Peter Dillon’s. We reined the lads in for an autograph as well 🥰

“Who said nothing exciting happens when The Toon don’t have football at the weekend?”

The Toon Army NYC were set up in the early 2000s and met up in different bars across the city before founding a dedicated home at Peter Dillon’s 36th Street in 2020. The pub is known to be the go-to location in the Big Apple on matchdays, with Magpies-loving visitors from across the world.

The group’s website explains: “You’ll always find a group of lads and lasses gathered at what we affectionately refer to as the Gallowgate end of the bar leading Newcastle chants, loud and proud.

“We’ve also adopted Eddie Howe’s tradition of taking a group photo following the team’s victories.  If you’re a Newcastle fan travelling to New York City, Peter Dillon’s 36th Street is a must visit destination.”
