Newcastle United have sent a message of condolences to former midfielder Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest confirmed that the 23-year-old would miss tonight’s Europa League fixture due to the passing of his mother.
Nottingham Forest face FC Porto in the Europa League second leg, which finished 1-1 in Portugal last week. A statement from the club read: “Elliot Anderson is unavailable for tonight’s fixture following the passing of his beloved mother, Helen.
“Everyone at Nottingham Forest Football Club extends its deepest condolences to Elliot and his family following this extremely sad news. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the Anderson family at this difficult time.”
Anderson has made 42 appearances for Forest this season and has become a key member of the England squad ahead of the World Cup this summer.
The midfielder had not featured in the first leg match against FC Porto due to a suspension. He has played in every Premier League game so far this season for Forest.
