Kieran Trippier is reportedly set to reject Everton interest despite confirming he will leave Newcastle United when his contract expires this summer, preferring a foreign move.

The veteran right back announced earlier this month that his time at St James’ Park will come to an end, closing the chapter on one of the club’s most influential modern signings.

Everton interest in Trippier

The Toffees have been linked with the English right back for a while now and were looking to sign him in the previous transfer windows. However, sources suggest that the 35-year-old is more likely to pursue a move abroad rather than remain in England.

For Everton, missing out on Trippier would be a blow, given Trippier’s leadership qualities, experience and proven Premier League pedigree.

Age is not a factor for the Toffees as the veteran would have been another name on the list of experienced players through the doors in recent years, including Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney.

Newcastle United star attracts interest from abroad

Since the announcement, Trippier has been drawing attention from overseas clubs. Interest has been emerging from both the MLS and the Saudi Pro League, giving him options as he considers the next step of his career.

His previous stint abroad was a success, lifting the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid in 2021. With regular football likely to be his priority, a move away from the continent may offer the right back the best opportunity for that. He still has so much to offer.

End of an era

Trippier’s departure marks the end of an inspirational spell on Tyneside. Since arriving at St James’ Park in 2022, he had played a major role in helping Newcastle avoid relegation before driving them back into Europe.

With over 150 appearances for the Magpies, he captained the side during one of their most successful periods in recent history. He also helped end the club’s long wait for silverware, lifting the Carabao Cup last season.

His destination might be unclear but his legacy will last forever. For the Newcastle faithful, he will be known as one of the most revolutionary players of their modern history.
