  • Bruno Guimaraes has hinted his return could be close
  • Newcastle’s captain has recovered well from his hamstring injury
  • Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar could also be due a return

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has given fans a boost with an update on his return from injury. The Brazilian posted a three-word message on his social media suggesting he could be back soon.

Guimaraes has been out of action since Newcastle’s 2-1 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur back in February with a hamstring strain. He faced a setback in his recovery recently when he was diagnosed with mumps and subsequently forced to not attend the Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park.

Hamstring Recovery Going Well

Guimaraes’ hamstring recovery has reportedly gone well. The Newcastle captain was allowed to return to Brazil to complete the first part of his rehabilitation.

The 28-year-old flew with the squad to Barcelona upon return from his homeland, witnessing the 7-2 defeat in person.

It was on the flight back when he noticed his face was swollen, which subsequently saw him diagnosed with mumps. He was then required to isolate for four days.

Now that he has recovered, Bruno is eyeing a return to action in the coming weeks. Getting him back will be crucial for Eddie Howe’s men in a run that could see European football increasingly distant.

Guimaraes’ Instagram message

Guimaraes has taken to his Instagram account in recent days, clearly eager to return to the pitch as soon as possible. He shared a photo of himself on the hallowed turf at St James’ Park.

The Newcastle captain captioned the image with the three-word message ‘not long now’.

With Newcastle not in action until April 12th, when they return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, there is a chance Bruno could be back.

Bruno and Others Returning

Bruno could be joined by two other Newcastle stars in his return. Both Lewis Miley and Fabian Schar are reportedly close to being available for selection once again in the coming weeks.

Eddie Howe said, “It will be after the internationals for Lewis (Miley). We anticipate he will be back, hopefully after the break, and fingers crossed the same for Bruno and Fabian.”

All three of the returns will be welcome boosts for Howe, should everything go to plan.

Newcastle have a gruelling run-in as they look to climb back into European contention following a poor season, all things considered. Having as many hands on deck as possible could be the difference between another European adventure next season and another season of Premier League football alone.

matchday.
