  • Lewis Hall set to stay at Newcastle
  • The English defender has had a top season
  • Change could still be coming the Magpies way

Newcastle United left back Lewis Hall has had a brilliant campaign for the Magpies, in what’s been a pretty underwhelming season for the club. There has been speculation around his future with Manchester United showing interest, but reports claim he is set to sign a new deal at the club.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Eddie Howe’s side doesn’t expect the 21-year-old to leave St James’ Park this summer, as they look to tie him down to a new deal.

With interest in several key players, the Toon Army will be hopeful that a new deal for Hall gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

Hall shines in Black and White

Hall moved to Tyneside in 2023 on loan from Chelsea, and the deal was made permanent the next summer. The 21-year-old has locked down the left back position, despite competition from Geordie defender Dan Burn.

While the club have struggled immensely so far this season, Hall has stood out and looked better than ever. He kept Ballon d’Or runner-up Lamine Yamal quiet during a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at St James’ Park.

Whether it’s his defensive work rate or the chances he creates for his forwards, he offers it all to Howe’s side.

In the first leg against Barca, Hall demonstrated his quality as he denied Yamal all evening, and it required the teenage sensation to score from the spot to finally get the better of Hall.

There have been rumblings surrounding his future and whether he would remain at the club, but it seems he’s set to sign a new deal to remain on Tyneside.

In England’s press conference ahead of their March fixtures, the 21-year-old showed his support for the Newcastle boss, and it seems the club are rewarding his faith and performances.

Hall is reportedly earning £45,000 a week, so if a new deal were to be signed, a wage increase would be expected to put him within the highest earners at the club.

Newcastle’s summer of change

This summer looks set to be a pivotal moment for the club, as it looks like it’s a chance to reset after a challenging campaign.

Tino Livramento, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have all been linked with moves away from the club, with reports that Tonali has an agreement with the club, similar to Alexander Isak’s, which allows him to leave this summer.

Kieran Trippier is also likely leaving Tyneside as his contract expires. All these players will need quality replacements, as well as players to step up into necessary leadership roles.

There are still question marks about their English manager, with many possible replacements being discussed by fans.

While change seems almost guaranteed at St James’ Park, the supporters will be happy to know Hall will likely be wearing the Black and White shirt once again.
