Newcastle join race for 141-goal Youssoufa Moukoko
Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Borussia Dortmund “wunderkind” Youssoufa Moukoko.
What’s the word?
That is according to a report from ChronicleLive, which details the Toon’s reported interest in the star, who was the youngest player at the recently concluded Qatar World Cup tournament, turning out for Germany at the tender age of 18.
The report suggests that the Magpies have now joined the list of admirers for the star who bagged 141 goals at Youth Level.
Though, it’s worth noting that whilst Chelsea are seen as front runners for Moukoko’s services, Eddie Howe’s side are said to hold a financial advantage over their competitors.
Moukoko’s contract at Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season.
Decision time
With the 18-year-old contract expiry fast approaching, it appears to be decision time for Borussia Dortmund, who are left with just one more opportunity to cash in on the star if they are unsuccessful in resigning him on fresh terms.
Having been promoted to the first-team in the 20/21 season, Moukoko has been eased into top-flight football and has already started eight games.
This is the starlet’s breakout campaign of sorts, with his six goals and three assists from 14 Bundesliga games demonstrating his potential and nous in front of goal.
Right now, he needs regular minutes, so sticking around in Dortmund would be his best bet.
But, there is no reason as to why a side like Newcastle couldn’t sign him in January and loan him back to the club for the rest of the season.
With PIF’s ambition shining through ever since the takeover, you would not be surprised if they started planning ahead with transfers.
This coup would be a brilliant signal of their long-term ambition, with Moukoko tipped to be a real star for years to come.
