Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth is open to raiding former club Brighton to acquire the services of Leandro Trossard.
That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has informed GIVEMESPORT of the latest news surrounding the Belgian international, who has seen his name linked with Chelsea quite recently.
Speaking about a potential switch to Newcastle, Jones confirmed that Trossard is indeed “on the radar” of the Tyneside outfit and understands that key decision maker Ashworth “is on board” with this transfer, suggesting that the Magpies will make their move for the player in due course.
When asked if Newcastle are in the mix to sign Trossard, speaking to GIVEMESPORT the insider said: “Yeah, they are. He’s someone that is definitely on the radar. Obviously, Dan Ashworth is the man that’s going to need to be convinced over any signing, but I’m told that he is on board with this.”
Toon’s transfer raid
If Newcastle can prise talisman Trossard from the clutches of Brighton, it will make for a scintillating statement from the side, and an astute piece of business tactically speaking.
The Belgian fits the type of profile that Eddie Howe is after for his left-flank and, like Almiron, he has endured a stellar start to the season that has seen him net seven goals in his first 12 Premier League games.
At age 27, he is in and around the prime years of his career and would surely be inquisitive at the prospect of joining the Newcastle project at the very least.
His goalscoring exploits have seen him explode this season, with the star just one goal away from equalling his tally of eight from last season.
Overall, Jones’ admission over the number-11-wearing asset is big and could see Ashworth swoop for the star sooner, rather than later.
