Transfer insider shares what Newcastle ‘definitely want’ in January

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United will look to add a creative player when the transfer market reopens.

The Magpies are in 10th place in the Premier League as they prepare to return to action following the international break. It has perhaps been a frustrating start to the campaign, though, with Eddie Howe’s men drawing five of their first seven fixtures.

They are without a top-flight win since the season’s opening weekend and have only scored one goal from open play in their last three games.

Despite dominating possession (72%) in their most recent clash against Bournemouth, the Toon only fashioned one big chance and were held to a 1-1 draw, even having to come from behind against htier manager’s former club.

Newcastle seeking creative addition

Having made multiple attempts to sign James Maddison in the summer, it appears that Howe foresaw their playmaking issues, and it seems as if they will address the issue once again in January.

Transfer insider Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Another attacking outlet is something they definitely want. I think that they’re seeking creative solutions at the moment.

“The season’s going fine but they’ve become like draw specialists in the league and you want to find somebody that can be the difference maker and turn those draws into wins and manage to carve out those openings.”

Is Maddison the man?

Following Leicester’s disastrous start to the season, the Tyneside club will consider a renewed bid for Maddison, according to Football Insider.

The 25-year-old would provide an undeniable danger from midfield, with 21 goals and 13 assists since the start of the 2021/22 season.

Described as “world class” by England manager Gareth Southgate, Maddison could well have a huge impact if he comes to Tyneside, although Dan Ashworth may need to search for alternate targets given that the Leicester star would apparently prefer a move to Tottenham.
