Emil Krafth tipped to perform off-field role while injured

According to injury specialist, Ben Dinnery, Emil Krafth could become involved in Newcastle’s scouting or analysis network while on the sidelines.

The defender was stretchered off in the Magpies’ 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers back in August in the Carabao Cup with Eddie Howe later confirming that he had ruptured his ACL.

It’s an injury that could keep the Swedish full-back out for a number of months but Dinnery has suggested that the Toon could still find a way to keep Krafth in the loop.

Speaking to Football Insider, the medical expert hinted that Krafth could be involved behind the scenes at the club.

He said: “We know he hasn’t yet had surgery.

“That could be down to several factors. Sometimes the club may suggest the player returns to his homeland to see family and friends.

“It isn’t going to impact your timeline because the understanding is that he is out for the remainder of the season now. It’s just an opportunity to take a break before his focus shifts to the 2023-24 season.

“When he’s back, the hard work begins. But they will keep him involved in the day-to-day running of the club. We have seen players in the past sent on scouting missions and doing other things for the manager or analysis.

“It comes down to the individual and how they want to take things forward. There is a lot happening at Newcastle at the moment and I’m sure they will find a way to keep him involved in the day-to-day.”

The 28-year-old arrived at St. James’ Park for £5m back in 2019 on a four-year deal and he penned a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2024 this summer.

He has made 64 appearances for the club and was previously praised by Howe for his commitment to the team but it will be interesting to see if in fact he is handed an off-field assignment by the executives at Darsley Park while he focuses on recovering from a career-altering injury.
