When could Bruno Guimaraes return?

Newcastle United travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday evening and Eddie Howe said they’ll likely have to do it without Bruno Guimaraes.

The 24-year-old missed Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a hamstring injury and may not return in time to face Liverpool. Howe said in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference: “He’s doing well.

“I don’t know about this game coming up, but hopefully not far after if he doesn’t make this game.” After Liverpool, Newcastle welcome Crystal Palace to St James’ Park on September 3, so that’s four days away. Bruno has every chance of featuring against the Eagles if he’s close to playing against Liverpool.

The Brazilian international has made four appearances in all competitions this season and has picked up where he left off in 2021/22. Bruno has been outstanding in midfield, turning over possession, driving with the ball from and creating chances, so he’ll be missed on Wednesday night.

Sean Longstaff started alongside Joe Willock and Joelinton in his absence and had a mixed game. He didn’t turn over the ball enough and was wasteful with his distribution, so the midfield might be a problem area against Liverpool. Howe doesn’t have anyone else available, so he’s forced to name an unchanged engine room.

matchday.
