Allan Saint-Maximin impressed against Wolves

Newcastle United came from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, courtesy of a brilliant late goal from Allan Saint-Maximin. The Magpies were on the brink of defeat until the 25-year-old volleyed an effort from the edge of the box beyond Jose Sa to ensure his side took a share of the spoils.

Saint-Maximin put in a good performance at Molineux too, boasting more shots, more dribbles and being fouled more than any of his teammates, so he deserved the plaudits on Sunday afternoon. He was more threatening on the left-hand side than Miguel Almiron on the right and ended up having a big say in the outcome.

Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Saint-Maximin a player rating of 8/10 and said he ‘tested’ Wolves all afternoon and got what he deserved with the equalising goal. Dominic Scurr of Shields Gazette gave the Frenchman a player rating of 7/10 and said was a ‘threat’ while on the pitch.

Against Wolves, Saint-Maximin played for 98 minutes, had 61 touches, completed 78.1% of his 32 passes, created one chance, had five shots with 60% hitting the target, whipped in two crosses, made one interception, was fouled twice and had three successful dribbles.

The 25-year-old has made four Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal with two assists.

In other news, Miguel Almiron lacked an end product against Wolves

matchday.
