Eddie Howe has lucrative resources to recruit new talent at Newcastle United, but he isn’t going to overhaul the entire playing squad in one transfer window. Instead, the Magpies manager will identify weak areas that need addressing before signing an upgrade.
One position Newcastle need to strengthen is their attack. The Magpies were shut out nine times in the Premier League and scored just one goal on 17 occasions, so the majority of their games resulted in one or less goals being bagged (26/38).
Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron have only managed to match Allan Saint-Maximin’s goals and assists, so Howe could do with an upgrade on the wing. Newcastle have Leeds United’s Jack Harrison in sight but failed with an opening bid of £25m, so he won’t come cheap.
The 25-year-old would be a good option as his numbers from last season prove he’s an improvement on most of Howe’s wide-men. Harrison created more chances (42) than Ryan Fraser (25), had more successful dribbles (54) than Miguel Almiron (27) and scored more goals (8) than Allan Saint-Maximin (5).
Harrison would improve Newcastle’s attack, but it remains to be seen if the Magpies match his asking price.
