Karl Darlow has spent most of the season on the periphery at Newcastle United, deputising for Martin Dubravka on occasion, but Paul Robinson predicts he and other outcasts might be on their way out of St James’ Park this summer.

The 31-year-old has three years remaining on his contract, but his future is uncertain as Newcastle are being linked with replacement goalkeepers while clubs are showing interest.

And amid Darlow potentially being shown the exit door, Robinson says Eddie Howe will have a busy summer offloading players given how much deadwood there is in the squad.

He told Football Insider:  “They need to get rid of players. They have to get players off the wage bill. I suspect it will be a busy summer of both incomings and outgoings.”

Darlow has made eight Premier League appearances this season, conceding 15 goals without keeping a clean sheet. He featured in September, October and November when Dubravka was injured but hasn’t played ever since.

Newcastle have been linked with Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, so Darlow could be forced out if Howe is looking to upgrade between the sticks.

The 31-year-old has caught the eye of Middlesbrough too, so he might be tempted away from St James’ Park to get first-team football. Darlow might not want a permanent move away, however, so a loan move could be possible.
