Journalists say Guimaraes was ‘a class above’ despite 1-0 defeat

Newcastle United suffered consecutive Premier League defeats with a 1-0 loss away to Everton, but the performance of Bruno Guimaraes was one positive. The 24-year-old started alongside Joe Willock and Joelinton in midfield and was the pick of the bunch by some distance.

Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World gave Guimaraes a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘a class above’ on the night. Gareth Cox of The National News gave the Brazilian international a player rating of 7/10 and said he ‘sliced open Everton. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Guimaraes a player rating of 8/10 and said he ‘oozed quality’ at Goodison Park. Tom Gott of 90min gave him a player rating of 7/10 and said he had some ‘classy moments’.

Against Everton, Guimaraes played for 90 minutes, had 86 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 97% of his 66 passes, had three shots with 33% hitting the target, whipped in one cross, found a teammate with 9/9 long balls from deep, made three tackles, had one clearance, won two freekicks and had one successful dribble.

The 24-year-old has made eight Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring one goal. He needed some time to get up to speed with the top-flight but looks comfortable at the base of the midfield now.
