Newcastle United took a big step to safety with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion and Ryan Fraser delivered one of his best performances for the Magpies.
The 28-year-old has featured regularly since Eddie Howe replaced Steve Bruce and vindicated his manager’s decision by having a hand in both goals at St James’ Park.
After having a volleyed effort saved early on, Fraser opened the scoring in the 12th minute from close range. Jacob Murphy’s effort hit the post and Fraser was one hand to put the ball into the back of the net.
The Scottish international then turned provider two minutes later for Fabian Schar to score, brilliantly heading home his whipped freekick. Fraser was a constant threat until his second-half substitution and can be delighted with his contribution.
Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World gave Fraser a player rating of 8/10 and said he made a ‘key contribution’ against Brighton. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave the 28-year-old a player rating of 10/10 and said he’s ‘worth his weight in gold’.
Grey Whitebloom of 90min gave Fraser a player rating of 7/10 and described his contribution as ‘lung-busting’. Dominic Schurr of Shields Gazette gave the Scot a player rating of 9/10 and noted how threatening he was until Eddie Howe hooked him in the second half.
Fraser has made 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with three assists. He’s had a hand in four goals in his last five games and has finally found some form.
