Fans on social media laud ‘class’ Martin Dubravka for ‘excellent’ performance

Newcastle United picked up only their second win of the season after beating Leeds United 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon and Martin Dubravka was one of many players who impressed between the sticks.

The 33-year-old has come in for a lot of criticism in 2021/22 but was at his best over the weekend and deserved his player rating of 8/10 by Chronicle Live. Fans on social media laud Dubravka’s contribution too.

Against Leeds, Dubravka played for 90 minutes, had 40 touches, completed 60.7% of his 28 passes, made four saves, found a teammate with 14 of his 25 long-range balls, parried one effort to safety and collected the ball three times.

The Slovakian international has made 10 appearances in all competitions, conceding 17 goals with two clean sheets. Dubravka was sidelined with injury earlier in the campaign but has been a regular since late-November.

He’s saved 65.9% of 44 shots on target faced, conceding two less goals (16) than his expected ratio (18). Dubravka silenced his critics on Saturday and will hope to do the same against Everton on February 8.

In other news, fans on social media blast ‘awful’ Jonjo Shelvey for ‘terrible’ performance

matchday.
