Fans on social media say ‘brilliant’ Kieran Trippier is ‘a class above’

Newcastle United threw away a 1-0 lead against Watford in the dying minutes to draw 1-1 at St James’ Park, but a number of players turned in good performances despite the setback. Kieran Trippier was one of them and Chronicle Live gave him a player rating of 7/10 for his contribution.

No Newcastle player had more touches, created more chances, blocked more shots, whipped in more accurate crosses or made more interceptions. Fans on social media have been impressed with Trippier since his surprise January move from Atletico Madrid and believe the 31-year-old is already one of the best right-backs Newcastle have ever had.

Against Watford, Trippier played for 90 minutes, had 95 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 64.3% of his 56 passes, created two chances, whipped in five crosses with 40% finding a teammate, found a teammate with three of his eight long-range passes, made five tackles, blocked two shots, made four interceptions and gave away two fouls.

The England international, who won the Liga title with Atleti last season, joined Newcastle on a two-and-a-half-year deal and has gone on to make two appearances in all competitions.

In other news, Kevin Campbell says Newcastle signing ‘brilliant’ Solanke would be ‘great move’

matchday.
