Newcastle United have Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett who can operate at left-back, but Dummett has been out all season with a calf injury while Lewis has a hamstring problem, so the Magpies could do with strengthening in this area when the winter transfer window opens.
The Mirror say Newcastle are interested in Everton’s Lucas Digne. The 28-year-old has an uncertain future at Goodison Park after falling out with Rafael Benitez. Everton are closing in on the signing of Vitaliy Mykolenko too, so he would be Digne’s direct replacement. Some fans on social media want the Everton defender at St James’ Park.
Digne joined the Toffees from Barcelona in 2018 and has gone on to make 127 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals with 20 assists.
The French international has created 22 chances, blocked 21 shots/passes/crosses, won 25 aerial duels, whipped in 71 crosses, been dribbled past seven times and has averaged a tackle (33) or interception (14) every 25 minutes, so he would improve Newcastle’s backline.
Digne cost Everton £18m in 2018 and has four years remaining on his deal at Goodison, so the Toffees are likely to want most of that money back.
