Fans on social media blast ‘terrible’ Jamaal Lascelles after Liverpool defeat

Newcastle United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday evening and Jamaal Lascelles once again came under criticism for his performance, leading to fans on social media blasting him. He was given a player rating of 5/10 by Chronicle Live too.

The 28-year-old was fortunate to keep his place at centre-back after his below-par showing in the Magpies’ 4-0 defeat to Leicester City, but he might be taken out of the spotlight for Sunday’s clash with Manchester City. Lascelles had a busy evening but failed to contain the Premier League title-chasers.

Against Liverpool, Lascelles played for 90 minutes, had 38 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 75% of his 24 passes, made one tackle, had three interceptions, made six clearances and blocked two shots.

The 28-year-old was beaten to the ball in the build-up to Liverpool’s second goal and couldn’t keep up with the Reds at Anfield. Ciaran Clark was on the bench on Thursday and might be given an opportunity if Howe doesn’t feel he can trust his club captain.

Lascelles has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, but will he make his 15th against Man City?
