Fans on social media blast ‘awful’ Joe Willock for ‘terrible’ performance

Joe Willock impressed for Newcastle United on loan last season, so much so that supporters wanted to sign him permanently from Arsenal over the summer. Those fans got their wish and Willock signed a six-year deal in August, but his form has wavered this season and his performance on Sunday was heavily criticised.

Newcastle suffered a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and Willock was one of many players who underperformed. The 22-year-old was given a player rating of 4/10 by Chronicle Live and supporters on social media blasted his latest showing.

Against Leicester, Willock played for 90 minutes, had 51 touches, completed 79% of his 38 passes, created one chance, had two shots, whipped in three crosses, made one tackle, gave away four fouls, had one interception, won one freekick and had one successful dribble.

The 22-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, featuring in all but two of Newcastle’s Premier League games, but he’s not firing on all cylinders right now. Eddie Howe might have a decision to make on Willock if he continues to struggle.

The Magpies lock horns with Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday.
