Fans on social media stay quiet as Newcastle are linked with Abdou Diallo

Newcastle United aren’t short of central defenders with Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez, but Foot Mercato say they’re after another – Abdou Diallo.

The 25-year-old has featured heavily for Paris Saint-Germain this season but may have an uncertain future as he’s on the Magpies’ radar. Supporters on social media are staying quiet about the rumour, however, perhaps as their knowledge is limited.

Diallo joined PSG on a five-year deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and has gone on to make 68 appearances in all competitions, grabbing four assists. The Senegalese international set PSG back £28m and has played a lot of games in two years, but he’s been left out of the starting eleven of late.

Diallo has played in only two of the Parisians’ last eight Ligue 1 outings and was an unused substitute in their previous three Champions League games, so it appears he’s fallen down the pecking order.

The 25-year-old can operate at left-back and centre-back but doesn’t have a place in the side under Mauricio Pochettino, so might Newcastle capitalise on the situation?

In other news, fans on social media react negatively as Newcastle are linked with Dean Henderson

matchday.
