Fans on social media react as Andy Carroll joins Reading on short-term deal

Andy Carroll was released by Newcastle United over the summer and didn’t have a lot of interest from suitors because of his poor form and fitness problems over the last few years, but fans on social media have responded positively after hearing he’s found himself a new club.

The 32-year-old joined Reading on a short-term deal until January and has a chance to impress at the Madejski stadium to earn himself a contract for the remainder of the season. Reading are 16th in the Championship and 10th in the scoring charts, so Veljko Paunovic is hoping Carroll will bring the goals.

Reading are embarking on a gamble, however, as the England international has missed a lot of football in the last few years due to injury.

Carroll spent large portions of 2013/14 (15/38 PL apps), 2014/15 (14/38 PL apps), 2016/17 (18/38 PL apps) 2017/18 (16 PL apps), 2018/19 (12 PL apps) and 2019/20 (19 PL apps) on the treatment table and hardly featured in his two-year stint back at Newcastle – eight PL starts from a possible 76.

The 32-year-old has scored just one league goal since April 2018, so can he turn things around at Reading?

In other news, fans on social media are excited as Newcastle are linked with Marcelo Brozovic

matchday.
