Newcastle United are being linked with every footballer and manager following their takeover by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so the latest story has been met with ridicule by supporters on social media.
El Nacional say Toni Kroos is on Newcastle’s radar and the Magpies are prepared to pay €30m to procure his signature. Newcastle are now the richest club in Europe so they can afford to meet the 31-year-old’s wage demands, but is Kroos really leaving Real Madrid for a project in the North-East?
Kroos joined Real from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has gone on to make 326 appearances in all competitions, scoring 22 goals with 80 assists. The German international, who boasts 106 caps for his country, has won two La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues at Real, so there are fewer better decorated midfielders out there.
Kroos’ deal at the Santiago Bernabeu has two years to run and he remains a regular for Los Blancos when fit, so it’s hard to see Real selling him so willingly. It’s also hard to see the 31-year-old leaving so readily either, so fans are right to ridicule this story.
