Newcastle United U23s thrashed Birmingham City 4-0 on Monday night and the highly-rated Elliot Anderson grabbed a brace for his troubles. The 18-year-old, who’s impressed Steve Bruce this season, took his goal tally to four in his last four Premier League 2 games and marked the occasion with a post on his Instagram story.

Anderson has scored seven goals with five assists in 22 games for the U18s, scored 13 goals with three assists in 29 games for the U23s and made two appearances in the first-team. He’s represented Scotland at youth level and looks to have a bright future.

Although Bruce’s future at the club is uncertain after Newcastle were taken over by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, the first-team coaches have been paying attention to Anderson.

The 18-year-old was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Watford and 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, so he’s knocking on the door of the first-team. He played a full 90 minutes in the Magpies’ EFL Trophy defeat to Harrogate Town but hasn’t made a senior appearance this campaign.

That could soon change, however, after his brace against Birmingham.
