Steve Bruce has an uncertain future at Newcastle as the Magpies are only one place above the relegation zone with three points from a possible 18 this season, says Calciomercato, as Gennaro Gattuso is linked with the position.

Newcastle are one of five teams yet to win a game in the Premier League and have conceded twice as many goals as they’ve scored, so Bruce has short odds to be sacked.

Gattuso, who has coached at Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa and AC Milan, is a free agent after leaving Napoli in May. He’s been linked with Newcastle before, but fans are torn on social media whether he’d be a good appointment or not.

Bruce isn’t popular at Newcastle as he’s presiding over mediocrity, but Gattuso has lost his last two jobs for poor performance. Although the 43-year-old was managing bigger clubs and chasing greater targets, he fell short of his objectives and it lead to his exit.

Calciomercato believe Bruce’s time at Newcastle could be up if the Magpies suffer defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, giving the club an international break to replace him, but time will tell if it happens.
