Although Steve Bruce has Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez at his disposal, all of whom have made an appearance this season, Newcastle United appear to be after another centre-back.
Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and the Guardian says the Magpies are interested in Özan Kabak and may have to battle Torino for his signature, but supporters haven’t been overly interested on social media.
The 21-year-old will be granted a departure from Schalke 04 this summer, but Romano says loan moves won’t be accepted so Newcastle would have to match his asking price.
Kabak, who has played for Silivrispor, Galatasaray and VfB Stuttgart, joined Schalke in 2019 and has gone on to make 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with one assist.
The Turkish international spent the second half of last season on loan at Liverpool and made 13 appearances before returning to the Veltins Arena. He’s yet to make an appearance for Schalke this campaign, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle will make a move. Romano says they’ve yet to put forward an offer.
