Newcastle United confirmed on Friday that Joe Willock turned his loan move permanent from Arsenal and supporters on social media were delighted with the news.
The 21-year-old fell down the pecking order at Arsenal and was loaned out to Newcastle last season for more opportunities. Willock went on to score eight goals in 14 appearances for the Magpies and looks a real prospect.
Fans are thrilled to see Willock sign permanently as Newcastle spent most of the summer trying to broker a deal. Steve Bruce was open about the club’s ongoing pursuit of Willock but Arsenal wouldn’t budge on their valuation.
The Gunners’ academy prospect has chosen first-team football over sitting on the bench at his boyhood club, so Willock has real integrity. His stock rose after getting more minutes at Newcastle last season, so his decision makes a lot of sense.
The former England youth international rose through Arsenal youth ranks, making 27 appearances for the U18s and 29 appearances for the U23s before making 78 appearances for the first-team.
Willock recently found himself behind Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in the pecking order, however, so the time was right to move on.
