Although Steve Bruce has Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jonjoe Shelvey, Jeff Hendrick and Matty Longstaff to call upon in midfield, Newcastle are on the hunt for new faces in the engine room.
The Magpies are closing in on Joe Willock from Arsenal, have entered talks with Olympique Marseille over Boubacar Kamara and Calciomercato say they’re interested in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 27-year-old joined Liverpool from Arsenal in 2017 and has gone on to make 104 appearances across the board, scoring 14 goals with 11 assists. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time at Anfield has been hampered by various injuries and he’s unlikely to command a starting place next season.
Supporters on social media are being realistic about their chances of signing him, however, as Southampton are also keen to sign the England international.
Oxlade-Chamberlain may be open to a move from Liverpool after amassing only 244 minutes of Premier League football last season, so he needs first-team football for the sake of his career.
With Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita ahead in the pecking order, the Ox is unlikely to get many games at Liverpool. He stands a better chance of playing with a side lower down the table.
In other news, there’s optimism on social media as Newcastle United are linked with Boubacar Kamara
