Optimism on social media as Newcastle are linked with Kamara

Newcastle United have Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jonjoe Shelvey, Jeff Hendrick and Matty Longstaff at their disposal, but they’re on the hunt for another midfielder.

The Magpies are closing in on signing Joe Willock from Arsenal, but Il Messaggero (h/t Sport Witness) say Boubacar Kamara is also on their radar and steps have been taken to lure him to St James’ Park.

The 21-year-old rose through the youth ranks to Olympique Marseille’s first-team in 2017/18 and has gone on to make 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with five assists.

Kamara has been a regular at the Stade Vélodrome for the last three seasons and looks to have a bright future ahead of him, so it’s no surprise why fans on social media are excited.

Newcastle are willing to pay €14m (£11.8m) for the defensive-midfielder, but they’ll have to get closer to his €40m (£34m) asking price to stand a chance of signing him.

Kamara averaged a tackle (88) or interception (34) every 24 minutes, had 34 successful dribbles, created 26 chances, won 65 aerial duels, blocked 40 shots/passes/crosses and completed 86.7% of his passes in 35 Ligue 1 games last season.

He’s a talented player but Newcastle are some distance from bringing him to the North-East so fans may have to curb their enthusiasm.
