Jamaal Lascelles has been working hard in pre-season ahead of the upcoming campaign and he’s now taken part in his first friendly of the summer. The 27-year-old captained Newcastle’s first-team against York City on Sunday and posted action pictures on his Instagram story to mark the occasion.

Jacob Murphy, Federico Fernandez, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser, Callum Wilson and Joelinton were among those that started for Newcastle while Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Sean Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, Matty Longstaff, Dwight Gayle, Jamal Lewis and Yoshinori Muto were on the bench.

Lascelles appeared to stay on for the full 90 minutes, but the Magpies first senior friendly ended in defeat – they lost 1-0 to York. Newcastle next travel to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Doncaster Rovers on July 23 before travelling to the AESSEAL New York Stadium to face Rotherham United on July 27.

It’s good for Lascelles and his teammates to get minutes under the belt, but they’ll be hoping to get a more positive result next time as the new season is only weeks away.
