Lukewarm reaction with Newcastle in talks to re-sign Lazaro

Newcastle United signed Valentino Lazaro in the second half of the 2019/20 season and he went on to make 15 appearances in all competitions before returning to his parent club, but Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness) say the Magpies are trying to lure him away from Inter Milan one year later.

The 25-year-old joined Inter from Hertha BSC for £20m in 2019 but has only made 11 appearances across the board. Lazaro was loaned out to Newcastle (January 2020 – July 2020) in his debut season and was loaned out to Borussia Monchengladbach (August 2020 – June 2021) in his second, so it appears he’s surplus to requirements at the San Siro.

Although Lazaro made an impression at Newcastle, the response on social media has been lukewarm. Supporters haven’t had a lot to cheer about this summer and haven’t had a lot to say about the rumours. Negotiations are still at an early stage, so fans may be waiting for an indication that a deal is in the offing before getting excited.

Gazzetta Dello Sport say Lazaro is keen to return to St James’ Park, so time will tell if progress can be made.
