Federico Fernandez posts pictures on Instagram after signing new contract

Federico Fernandez ended speculation over his future at Newcastle United by signing a two-year deal with the option of a third. The 32-year-old was out of contract this summer and could’ve been on his way out of St James’ Park, but he’ll now be a Newcastle player for five years by the time his new deal is up.

Fans will be delighted to see Fernandez is staying and the Argentine international celebrated the news on his Instagram story, posting a pictures of him smiling on the training ground and another of him speaking into a microphone.

Fernandez joined Newcastle from Swansea City in 2018 and has gone on to make 82 appearances on all competitions, scoring two goals with four assists. The 32-year-old has been a regular at centre-back for the last three years and was a player Newcastle were desperate to keep, so his new deal is great news.

Fans should be happy on social media too, as Fernandez would be a hard player to replace if allowed to leave. The Argentine captained the side for a period last season and was dribbled past only four times in 24 Premier League games.

In other news, there’s pessimism on social media as Newcastle face competition for Mario Lemina
