Fabian Schar has been enjoying himself this summer. The 29-year-old was named in Switzerland’s 26-man squad for the 2020 European Championships and has been a regular in the tournament, featuring in three of their four games.
He was utilised at left-back as Switzerland knocked favourites France out in the last-16 and the Swiss have now set up a quarter-final clash with Spain on Friday. Schar is understandably excited to be in the last eight of the tournament and shared his delight on Instagram.

The 29-year-old has picked up 63 caps for the national team and scored eight goals. He made his debut under Ottmar Hitzfeld in 2013 and has played in six major international tournaments (including the Nations League). Schar’s future at Newcastle is uncertain as his deal was only extended by 12 months because of a clause.
The defender wants to return to the Bundesliga, so Newcastle might have their resolve tested by suitors in Germany after the Euros are over. His exit would force Steve Bruce’s hands to bring in another centre-back.
