Many Newcastle United fans were raging over a claim from Chronicle Live reporter Lee Ryder that Rodrigo Vilca could move on loan to Carlisle United this month.
Talk of Rodrigo Vilca going to Carlisle at the moment. Guess it would depend on how much game-time he gets from it. #nufc ended up recalling Elias Sorensen from Brunton Park last term. Vilca will be 22 in March and Peru have told him he needs to be playing regular senior action.

The attacking midfielder arrived at St James’ Park in October 2020 as something of an unknown quantity from Deportivo Municipal, but the 21-year-old came to Newcastle with some pedigree at least on the international stage having made an impression in the Peruvian top flight. That was enough to convince the Magpies to offer him a four-year deal.
However, since his arrival at Newcastle, Vilca has been with the under-23 squad, having been deemed not yet ready to make a breakthrough into the first team. The 21-year-old has made seven appearances for the under-23s in Division 2 of Premier League 2 so far this term, scoring one goal and providing one assist (Transfermarkt).
Ryder has tweeted that Newcastle could send Vilca out on loan in order for him to get senior game-time under his belt in the second half of the season. League Two leaders Carlisle could be one potential destination, but only if the Magpies are sure that the 21-year-old will get regular minutes at Brunton Park. Peru have also informed him that he needs to play regular in order to make their national team squad.
Newcastle fans react to Vilca’s potential loan to Carlisle
Many Newcastle fans were left frustrated that the only potential move available for the 21-year-old is to League Two. As a result, some have questioned the Magpies’ scouting set up and why they even signed him in the first place:
Another pointless transfer https://t.co/S3rWJ6eNpR

Some bad scouting there I think, bring in younger players to develop into first team players. Rather than a 21 yo lad that has little chance of making the grade, you can’t blame the laddie though.

Seems a lot of players that come here are stunted. And that’s before Bruce. Add the Bruce factor and younger players regress under him, he can’t improve them, they get worse, wherever he’s been, hope this lad can recover his career when he leaves #nufc

Why do NUFC bring young talent in, they never ever get a chance. We have perfected skill removal from young players (and older ones).

He’s 22, how many players at that age who are not deemed good enough for first team then come back after a loan? Seems like another pointless transfer.
How many of our loan deals (out) do the first team see eventual benefit?

No disrespect to Carlisle but surely he's better than their level
