A number of Newcastle United fans were left frustrated after MPs elected not to ask any questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the Magpies’ potential takeover to the Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters.
Masters was being questioned by MPs in the latest Digital Culture, Media and Sport Committee meeting. It had been hoped that the Premier League’s chief executive would be asked about the current circumstances involving Newcastle’s potential takeover, per Chronicle Live. However, the Committee focused on other issues including Project Big Picture.
There may have been several reasons why MPs chose not to ask questions on Newcastle’s takeover situation – one of which could be because the Premier League have already been issued with a legal letter by Newcastle Consortium Supporters Limited. That letter is challenging them as to whether they breached UK competition laws over the summer with the halting of the proposed £300n takeover of the Magpies, per Shields Gazette.
The Premier League’s request for an extension to the period given to them to respond to the letter was rejected by Newcastle Consortium Supporters Limited last week, per Shields Gazette. It now remains to be seen what will happen over the legal challenge and whether it will have any significant bearing on the takeover.
Newcastle fans react to latest takeover development
Many Newcastle fans were left frustrated by the lack of questioning of Masters regarding the takeover, while others believed that they would have received little by way of clarity from any answers that could have been provided by Masters at this stage.

Really disappointed by that considering the amount of regional investment that it would attract
