Former Newcastle United midfielder Darren Ambrose, who played 54 times for the club, believes Magpies fans will not be enjoying the ‘type of football’ at present at St James’ Park.
The 36-year-old was speaking on TalkSPORT’s GameDay podcast and his comments have been mimicked elsewhere as another former Toon midfielder Kieran Dyer branded the style of football as ‘boring’ whilst in the studio for Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves.
After working for TalkSPORT on the game, Ambrose said: “The fans will not like that type of football.”
Meanwhile, Dyer went further in his criticism of the current state of affairs on the field at the club: ‘Steve Bruce has done a good job but I am bored watching Newcastle.’
The ex-England man who famously had an on-field bust-up with teammate Lee Bowyer whilst on Tyneside also claimed it’s not a new issue for the Magpies: ‘Newcastle have been boring for the last five years. Look at this team today – surely there are some goals in this team.’

Strong words from both former Toon representatives but they are possibly slightly misplaced.
Sunday’s performance, in particular, was subdued, however when you take into consideration the tactical tweaks Bruce had to implement due to not having his full-strength squad available to him, coming away from Molineux with a point is far from a poor result.
Whilst we all want to see attacking football, unfortunately, Bruce’s number one objective is to ensure Premier League survival for the club to avoid the scenes on the final day in 2016, anything after that is a bonus as things stand.
Newcastle are currently wedged between both Manchester clubs in the league table in 14th after making a reasonable start to the 2020/21 campaign. With the strong midfield options in the likes of Isaac Hayden and both Longstaff brothers getting closer to match fitness.
Perhaps the time will come for the onus to be placed more on the attacking flair with the squad in Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, and Miguel Almiron.
