Several Newcastle fans have called on the club to re-sign Jetro Willems in the summer, after the defender claimed he would like to come back to Tyneside.
The Netherlands international joined the Magpies on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, with Newcastle having an option to buy the left-back following his temporary move.
However, Willems could now be out for up to nine months, having ruptured his cruciate ligaments against Chelsea last month and subsequently returning to Germany for rehabilitation.
However, the 25-year admitted to Chronicle Live that he’d love to return to St James’ Park in the future, once he has returned to fitness.
Speaking about his future, Willems said:
I didn’t speak to anyone about it. The main thing is not my future. Now I’m just focusing on my rehab. I’m not busy with clubs or seeing what’s next. We will see in the next months what happens –they haven’t spoken with me yet.
Of course I would love to speak to Newcastle. I don’t want this to be my final time at the club. Come back next year? Why not?
Following these comments, a number of Newcastle fans expressed their desire to see the Dutchman return to the club next summer.
